This webinar will aim to support parents, educators and clinicians in thinking about the impact that our evaluative environments (e.g., home, school, community) can have on self-concept, anxiety, and mood. We will discuss how building self-compassion can be the antidote for children and adolescents (as well as their caregivers) who have felt criticized, misunderstood, undervalued, damaged/imperfect, or who might just need a nudge toward being kinder and more gentle toward themselves. We will follow a child as they interact in their various environments, to illustrate how invalidation often occurs inadvertently, and we will see how some useful tools related to self-compassion can help keep young people thinking and feeling positively about themselves.
