Inclusion Canada has shared their thoughts on disability inclusion in the recently announced Federal Budget 2022. While they will continue to advocate for government to promptly and aggressively address the priorities of people with intellectual disabilities and their families, they are encouraged by commitments made to employment, healthcare, and housing. These include funding for a national employment strategy for people with disabilities (including $20 million towards Ready, Willing & Able), access to dental care, and measures to address Canada's housing crisis.
While there are many encouraging aspects of the new budget, there are also some disappointments, including the lack of a Canada Disability Benefit. Inclusion Canada emphasizes the urgent need for this benefit, and wants the government to re-table the legislation that will enshrine it into law as soon as possible.
