Bill 124 Declared Inconstitutional
Late November 2022, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice struck down “Bill 124”, officially called the Protecting a Sustainable Public Sector for Future Generations Act. The Court decided that Bill 124 violated the Charter of Rights and Freedoms’ protections for freedom of association (which protects the right to collective bargaining) and was unconstitutional. This means that Bill 124 will no longer have effect as law (at least for the moment).
The Disability Benefit Act
Bill C-22, commonly known as the Disability Benefit Act, is currently making its way through our Parliamentary system. The bill aims to reduce poverty and support the financial security of working-age Canadians living with disabilities.
We are monitoring the progress of this bill and will keep you updated on the impact it will have on our community.
