Kirby’s House- A film by Rob Viscardis
For twenty years now, Kirby, who has an intellectual disability, has been living on his own and is thriving in his
quaint little house on a colourful small-town street. He is surrounded by helpful neighbours and a unique support
network that understands the power of community and belonging.
Kirby’s House shows how the dream of a HOME became a reality about 20 years ago and how Kirby has sustained
his independence, with support of his family who listened to his wishes, living in his own home with great neighbors
and hiring some of his own support.
Family Support Network Newmarket, Aurora will be showing the film, Kirby’s House through Zoom.
This film was made by Rob Viscardis, an editor and experienced documentary filmmaker. It was shown as part of
the ReFrame film festival in Peterborough.
The short film will be followed by Q & A from Rob, Kirby and Noreene, Kirby’s mom and Linda Viscardis, a parent
whose daughter lives independently.
Discussion will follow on how Direct and Individualised Fundings can help the person live, where they want to live
or if they want housemates.
