Independent Living Waterloo Region (ILWR) Call for Volunteers - Board of Directors

Independent Living Waterloo Region (ILWR) is looking for volunteers to join its Board of Directors. ILWR is a community-based organization “supporting independent living through service excellence and partnerships” for over 40 years in Waterloo Region. The organization supports individuals with disabilities through its Attendant Services and Community Resource programs. 

 

Volunteer Description

The ILWR Board of Directors comprises leaders who are dedicated to the organization’s mission and vision. Serving on the ILWR Board is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about strengthening leadership and governance in the nonprofit sector.

 

Board members are expected to:

  • Have the skills to read and understand financial statements and help the Board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Attend six Board meetings per year; reading meeting materials in advance to be prepared for, and participate in, discussions.
  • Serve on one, or more, Board committees and to actively participate in committee work. Committees meet at least four times annually.
  • Responsively represent ILWR in the community and advocate for the organization’s mission, programs, and services.
  • Board terms last for three years and members can serve for up to three consecutive terms.

 

Desired Skills and Expertise

We are seeking applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Informatics/ technology
  • Government relations
  • Legal
  • Lived experience
