Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions-Policy Paper devlopement

The Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions is developing a policy paper focused on mental health in children in the middle years (ages 7-12) with support from Optimus SBR.

In broad terms, the paper will address:

  • What is happening developmentally in the middle years, and why mental health in the middle years is important.
  • What is happening in mental health for middle children in Ontario now (including mental health system challenges and strengths, best practices in prevention and promotion, assessment, and treatment, and how mental health in middle year children is changing given the pandemic).
  • Emerging trends and best practices, and how Ontario can leverage these to better address the mental health needs of middle year children.

To inform this paper, we are engaging various system stakeholders and partners to ensure we consider the many different perspectives of those who engage with the mental health system for children in the middle years in Ontario – including youth and families, academics, educators, service providers, direct service providers, clinical leaders, and other partners.

Given your experience/expertise, we would really value your participation in a 1-hour focus group. We also encourage you to send this open invitation to colleagues or those in your network.

Specific dates and times for focus groups are:

  • Service providers: June 30 9:30-10:30 AM or July 14 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Academics: July 5 11:00 -12:00 PM
  • Child Welfare (system partners): July 6 10:00 -11:00 AM
  • Educators (system partners): July 6 11:00 -12:00 PM
  • Public Health and Health Promotion (system partners): July 7 10:00 -11:00 AM
  • Clinical Directors: July 14 3:00 – 4:00 PM
  • Family session: July 20 5:00 - 6:00 PM

If you are able to take part in one of these sessions, please confirm your interest via email to Sagnic ([email protected]).

With your confirmation, we will send you an email invitation to join virtually, with the discussion guide attached so you can prepare your thoughts in advance.
