Family Support Network for Employment

Who are we?

The Family Support Network for Employment (FSNE) is a family-led coalition,

established in 2018. FSNE seeks to understand the current realities, foster

improvements, and share best practices that engage individuals with

developmental disabilities and their family members for meaningful, competitive

employment. Structured as a network led by an advisory committee of nine family

members with a grassroot base of around 250 Ontario family members. We

advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities to have a quality, normative,

expected life path included in communities as valued and contributing citizens.

FSNE will provide a seven-module online learning pathway to employment for

individuals with developmental disabilities who face higher employment barriers.

Developed through a family lens, it aims to help stakeholders (individuals, family

members, employment service providers, educational systems, government, and

businesses) understand the systemic obstacles and challenges faced by the above

jobseekers.

The modules provide research on best practices, individual experiences and

examples that build the foundation to employment in the community for individuals

with developmental disabilities who face higher employment barriers.

We believe that employment promotes inclusion, self values, and social networking

for individuals with developmental disabilities to contribute to the economic growth

of their communities.

Based on Employment First principles and an employment model based on “third

party representation supports” the course provides information, increases

expectations, promotes possibilities and advocacy skills for participants.

We invite you to connect with us on FSNE website www.fsne.ca, follow us on YouTube

info@fsne.ca, Twitter outreach@fsne.ca, and Facebook outreach@fsne.ca to learn

more about the organization and the online course to be released in Fall 2021.
